That is the question. A coach is someone who pushes you to your full potential. In sports coaches put you in the best position to help the team win and instruct you on things that need work. An instructional coach in education is very similar. It is someone who works with teachers to develop and encourage them to be the very best they can and plan to make the most impact for the students. Coaching is not for the faint hearted. Not everyone will be accepting of coaching. Even though we all know it is what is best and two minds are better than one, there will be resistance. It is important for teachers to understand that, “coaching is a non-evaluative, learning relationship between a professional developer and a teacher, both of whom share the expressed goal of learning together, thereby improving instruction and student achievement"(Knight, 2019).
